His side of the story

So we all know there's two sides to every story, right? Right.

Kait had no idea I was going to propose. She couldn't believe, I didn't have time to find the most absolute perfect ring for hands down the best woman in the world. What happened with Niagara Falls? Why didn't he do it then? @dmhanso get your shit together! Wine and dine me and all I get is a Tiffany's necklace and some winnings at a casino. Play annoying Beyonce Single Ladies song on repeat a thousand times...

After telling Kait I had an appointment in the morning, she was upset she had to go back to work for the day. Like the previous day, she had arranged her schedule so we could spend more time together. Honestly, there's never enough time when you love someone so much that even when you become annoyed with each other, you still want to be within eyesight of that person. That's Kait and I. We have our quirks, we aren't perfect.

It didn't take me long to realize this early on in our relationship. I always knew Kait was something beyond this world. She has changed my life since the day we first spoke, first opened our respective letters, and first kissed.

After selecting the diamond (which is another story in and of itself), I then did a thousand other things to get ready for the special moment. I came over to Kait's house to spend a little bit of time with her while she was working. Every time I look at her I smile. Words can't come close to describing the happiness she brings me.

I left her house to get ready for the evening, and pick up the BLING, I mean ring.

Kait thought several things: 1) I wasn't proposing 2) We were going on an average date night for Thai and frozen yogurt 3) I was leaving tomorrow.

As per usual I was getting the texts, "where are you?" "You're not here?"  "I'm hungry and about to eat your face off, because you're late for the second night in a row" routine.

Trying to overcome the ambush at her front door, I proceeded to thank her parents briefly i.e. drop off the champagne and prosecco for our celebration. Acting fast, I came up with the absurd idea that I needed her to look at something either on me or wrong with my jacket.

We go upstairs to the bathroom, and I nervously turn on the shower..."Dane, what the hell are you doing?"

Shower comes on (to simulate Niagara Falls)

Then I have to pull a Heisman move to clear way for me to take a knee and pull out the ring box which of course got snagged on my inner coat pocket. SMH!

Kait, "I know you were expecting this at Niagara Falls, but I've been falling for you since the first time we met..."

The rest of it is for Kait alone, and I'll remember those words until the day I die. There are no words to express that moment in a man's life when he fully devotes himself to the love of his life. Hearing her say yes, the happiness in her embrace, the endless smile, and our kiss will last a lifetime.

I hit play on my iPhone of her favorite song by Ray Lamontagne, "You are the Best Thing" completed the moment we both had waited for all our lives.

Kait makes me a better man everyday, and I wanted her to know on that day, that I couldn't spend another without truly starting our forever.
